Over the last three weeks in preparation for ADE, Nicky Romero’s Protocol Recordings has released three iterations of Protocol Labs in anticipation of the label’s takeover at Melkweg–and it is filled with nothing but earworms.
The point of special releases should always be to excite listeners for the event to come–and Protocol has done just that. By showcasing young talent and rising stars–in my oh-so-humble opinion–you give people a very, very valid reason to show up early and stay all night, instead of setting the event up for the masses to waltz in late for the big guns.
My favorites (in no particular order)?
- FUNKYBEAT – Magnetic
- Execute & Faderx – Cabrio
- Maximals, Bout & Sovth – Fall In Line (Teamworx Remix)
- Sam Void – On My Mind (Navarra Remix)
- FUNKYBEAT – Love Is Love
- Tarlan & Lexon – Saxy
So, this 5 Years of Protocol night that I am sure is 100% worth whatever it takes to get your butt there: it is back at Melkweg (Lijnbaansgracht 234A) on Wednesday, October 18th. The Protocol team has done a wonderful job at packing the line-up in a way that is just right–kicking things off in the main room at 22:00 with Sam Void, whereas the Worldwide room gets going at 23:30 with FUNKYBEAT, who I am most definitely looking forward to dancing to after Protocol Labs. Other highlights (for me) include Blinders, Tom Staar, Kryder, Corey James, Tom Tyger, and of course the label boss himself–Nicky Romero.
If you’ve been sitting there, staring at your saved events, realizing there is way too much going on on Wednesday to decide, listen here: we’re all in the same boat. This is not the event you put on a “maybe” list. Stick it up on the top of your list, circle it in red pen, and come find the purple jacket on Wednesday night.
