Music has a way of freeze-framing instances in our hearts and minds forever. Yes, these instances may be few and far between, but when we hear the tunes associated to them we are instantly taken back to that time and place. When you bring together a group of people in very close quarters (think of the size of Amsterdam’s canals) and pair them with the record label they love, you get something very special.
Axtone is undisputably one of the most notable imprints in dance music – and not just because of its founder’s reputation. Axtone is a label that can be relied upon for tracks which iconize artists and revolutionize the sounds which take center stage of major festivals across the globe. I, for one, do not know where I would be in this industry without hearing this label years ago.
Labels like Axtone have the ability to take the incredibly damp and cold Amsterdam and turn it into an atmosphere quite unlike any other. The Thursday was absolutely miserable regarding weather, making it seem almost absurd to voluntarily place oneself on a boat for two hours of time, yet once inside the cozy canal boat and away from the elements it was easy to tell this was not your average boat party.
While Axtone had multiple sessions with acts like Chocolate Puma, Marcus Schossow, NEW_ID, Shapov, Dave Winnel and AS I AM, I had the pleasure of enjoying sets from two artists I repeatedly miss when in my hometown – Kryder and Tom Staar. These two men have catalogs of tunes that are at the forefront of all of my playlists, so it was an easy decision to make when I decided what time slot I was to go to.
The amount of energy both Kryder and Tom Staar bring to their performances is indescribable to be completely honest. There was not a moment where I found myself waiting for the boat to dock – which is quite unheard of nowadays. I am always standing off to the side bored by whatever is being played not even halfway into a party, yet though my feet were throbbing from walking through Amsterdam’s cobblestone streets all day my body was entranced by the sounds of the Kryder and Tom Staar.
Needless to say, I want a party that intimate everywhere I go, preferably on a boat cruising through the charming canals of such a magnificent city. I wholeheartedly applaud the crews that made this party possible and thank Axtone for their incredible hospitality.
