I firmly believe all songs deserve a fair shot and should not necessarily be judged by who created it (with a few exceptions)–needless to say, Axwell /\ Ingrosso’s latest Renegade is sure to surpass expectations compared to some of the previous releases for this Swedish duo.
As the first single off of their much anticipated EP (the first EP since their days in the Mafia), Renegade proves to be an intriguing fusion of Axwell and Ingrosso’s styles. I imagine the conversation in the studio to have been something like:
Ax: Listen to this new tune I wrote, Seb.
Seb: (*Listens*) Hold on here. It needs to be a bit bassier… sort of like Dream Bigger. Let’s do this… (*does a thing*)
Ax: Okay okay.We can keep a bit of that… but let’s keep it low key.
And alas, Renegade was born.
Renegade truly is the proper amalgamation of their styles–rougher around the edges when it comes to the vocal melody and yet more melodic when thinking through the synth and basslines. Put away your big room hats for this one, though–it’s super hot and super sexy.
Take it for a spin, mes petits renégats.
