Sometimes music truly is the best medicine for whatever might ail you. The Pharmacy is open, and Galantis is here to remedy all of your afflictions. Whether you are dancing to the sound of a broken heart or debating the direction of the next big move in your life, Pharmacy is the answer.
What Linus Eklöw and Christian Karlsson, better known as Galantis, have been able to create as producers, as artists, in the span of their career as a duo is astounding. But when you come face to face with the two of them, it is quite easy to see why. Both men are highly intelligent and well-versed artists with years in the music industry, years spent producing for greats like Icona Pop and Britney Spears, among others. Though the thought of an album may seem daunting for some, the two took the project head on and created something remarkable.
As the sound of music continues to synthesize and become indistinguishable, Galantis’ unique sound reigns supreme over the airwaves. While their sound is unparalleled, they have managed to think outside of the box for every track on Pharmacy – no easy feat to say the least. While the album features past hits from their Galantis EP: You, Runaway (U & I), Gold Dust, and Peanut Butter Jelly, it also features nine previously unreleased tracks which are sure to bring crowds to their feet.
With thirteen solid tracks, it is hard to pick a favorite (God bless the individual who has to pick their next single!). While every track is bound to reverberate through your entire being and evoke countless emotions, for me there are a few standouts worth mentioning.
First is track six, titled Louder Harder Better. The simple piano melody intro-ing in with the raspy and sensual vocals draw the senses in and transform into something exceptional. Louder Harder Better was an early and easy favorite, even after listening to the album during every waking moment over the last few days. The tenth track, Firebird, comes in a close second. The catchy female vocalist and uncluttered melody open into a festival ready tune bound to keep everyone dancing. I think this is certainly the stand-out summer track of the album, perfect for cruising down the road with friends. Dancin’ To The Sound of A Broken Heart, the fifth track on the album, has a unique, passion-filled sound. The fervor the track emanates and the relatable dynamic of it makes Dancin’ To The Sound of A Broken Heart a must-listen. The sound of a heartbeat that echoes through the track is a heart-wrenching bonus. One that continues to emerge as a favorite is the final track on the album, Water. The vocal is smooth yet powerful, filled with emotion and innervation. Finally, track eleven, Don’t Care, pops up in my mind on every listen as something special. The track has a rolling, driving melody – a sound I cannot manage to get out of my head. The upbeatedness of the track allures listeners in and ensures their hips keep swaying the entire time.
Clearly I am a fan of this album and a fan of these two Swedes. There is not a track of the thirteen that I dislike – picking five favorites was tough enough. As the album continued to play while I was writing this more tracks came on that I wanted to write about, but I told myself I needed to stop at five…
Take a listen and enjoy the journey Galantis has laid out before you, and let me know which track is your favorite!
