Okoren’s Words is unsettling.
The background for this track is simple yet difficult: heartbreak embedded in words, where words could heal no wounds. A relatable subject that we seldom even want to speak of, a subject this artist was kind enough to open up his soul for us to look through.
Without paying attention to the lyrics, Okoren’s topline stands out dramatically for its uniqueness. It is deep, smooth and impassionated, yet upon a second, third and fourth listen you feel the true emotion, the torment, behind his, well, words.
The hypnotic guitar line pairs incredibly well next to the percussive work – but like any good track, they allow the topline to shine through while providing just enough support and atmosphere.
Okoren’s name is new to my mind, yet Words is an affirmation of his musical prowess and all to come in his career.
